Biden and Trump call for national unity after attack

The current US president, Joe Biden, and the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, called on Americans for unity late yesterday evening, after the assassination attempt against Trump.

On July 13, during Trump’s pre-election rally in Pennsylvania, the presidential candidate was wounded and one of his supporters was killed.

Biden demanded an independent investigation into the incident.

The US president said that he had a “short but good” conversation with Trump. The latter was wounded in the right ear when the alleged gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired at the crowd from the roof of a nearby building. Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that they are still investigating the motive for the attack.

The attack took place in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), where the Republican National Convention will be convened on July 18 to confirm Trump’s candidacy. Ahead of the convention, 78-year-old Trump has already arrived in Milwaukee.

Trump told the Washington Examiner newspaper that he is going to give a speech at the convention, and that speech will be very different from the speech scheduled two days ago. “This is an opportunity to unite the whole country, even the whole world,” Trump said.

Biden also condemned the assassination attempt late in the evening of July 14 in a televised address to the people from the White House and informed that he ordered an investigation into how the gunman could get so close to shoot Trump despite the protection of the US Secret Service.

“There is no place in America for this kind of violence, for any violence at all. We cannot allow such violence to become common,” said Biden, continuing. – “Political rhetoric has become very heated in this country. Time to cool it down.”

The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5.
