The agreement between the government and the municipality of Naples to relaunch Bagnoli

A investment of over 1.2 billion euros to turn the page and definitively relaunch the Bagnoli area, through the redevelopment and urban regeneration of the Site of national interest. This is the objective of the memorandum of understanding signed in the Porta del Parco auditorium between the Prime Minister, Georgia Meloniand the mayor of Naples and extraordinary government commissioner, Gaetano Manfredi. An agreement that aims to “ensure the rapid implementation of the interventions”, as stated in the object of the protocol. The financial coverage is guaranteed “by the resources already available, equal to 31.3 million, and by the allocations provided for by art. 14 of the decree-law of 7 May 2024, equal to 1,218 million euros for the period 2024-2029, of which 28 million euros for the year 2024, 90 million euros for the year 2025, 100 million euros for the year 2026, 200 million euros for the year 2027 and 400 million for each of the years 2028 and 2029”.

The allocated funds are from the resources indicated for the Campania Region by the Cipess resolution n.25/2023 of 3 August 2023. Among the main interventions are the completion of the reclamation of the urban park; energy and telecommunications infrastructures; internal roads and accessibility to the Sin area; water infrastructures; removal of the landfill and reclamation of the beaches; execution of marine sediment remediation interventions and interventions on the waterfront. “It is the most ambitious environmental remediation and urban regeneration project in Europe”, the Prime Minister proudly remarked in her speech from the stage.

Also listening to her, in the front row, was the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo DeLuca protagonist of a sketch with Meloni. “I am the civilian De Luca”, says the ‘governor’ sarcastically, welcoming the Prime Minister to Bagnoli, adding a new episode to the clash between the two and thus responding to the expression “I am Meloni’s bitch”, which the Prime Minister had used last May 28 in Caivano. To ease the tension, the Prime Minister invites De Luca on stage, after the signing of the protocol, for the final photo with Manfredi and Minister Fitto. After some hesitation, the former mayor of Salerno accepts the invitation. Speaking to journalists at the end of the ceremony, he assures that “there were no particular problems”, but at the same time underlines that the 1.2 billion “are funds from the Region”.

A record is made possible clearing also on the front of the release of Fsc Funds destined for Campania. Fitto, in fact, welcomes De Luca on stage saying that work is being done on this front. “We’ll see each other soon”, adds the minister. Mayor Manfredi, who in recent months has always reiterated his desire to encourage institutional dialogue with the Government to achieve the objectives, speaks of “one of the most important environmental remediation and urban regeneration operations in Europe”, for an area that “is destined to become a great hub for investments, both public and private”. After thanking Meloni and the ministers present “for the attention paid to Naples”, the mayor assures that, after the delays and postponements of recent years, “today there is a robust and reliable roadmap for the definitive relaunch of the area”.
