An autopsy has shown that the body found on Tenerife on Monday is indeed that of Jay Slater. A spokesman for the court said in a statement that the victim’s fingerprints match those of the missing 19-year-old Briton. The first results of the autopsy have also been released.
Jay Slater was last seen on June 17. After a night of partying, Slater left for an abandoned Airbnb instead of his hotel. Why, is still a mystery. The next morning, he called his girlfriend, who had stayed in the UK. He told her he was lost, had run out of water, and had only one percent battery left on his phone. He disappeared without a trace after that call.
From the moment of the disappearance, the Spanish police immediately launched a search to find the teenager. This was stopped at the end of June, much to the dissatisfaction of the teenager’s family. That is why Slater’s family, with money raised through crowdfunding, brought in a Dutch team from the non-profit organization Signi Search Dogsn. One day later, in cooperation with the police, a body was found, which was now identified as Jay Slater. (Continue reading below the photo)
Fingerprints
“Fingerprints confirm the body belongs to Jay Slater,” a court spokesman told Reuters.
Meanwhile, the first results of an autopsy are also known. “For now, there seems to be no indication that it was malicious. The boy fell from a great height and suffered several fractures.”
The newspaper The daywhich is published in Tenerife, wrote that the body was in a place so inaccessible that a helicopter had to be used to recover the body.
