Yemeni government and Houthis reach economic deal

Yemen’s internationally recognised government and the Iran-backed Houthis, who control much of the country, have reached an agreement to improve economic relations and increase Yemenia Airways flights from Sanaa.

The agreement was reached with the assistance of Saudi Arabia, the main patron of the internationally recognized government. It provides for the lifting of internal sanctions, the resumption of cooperation in the banking sector, and negotiations on humanitarian issues.

UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg said the international organization is ready to cooperate with all parties in implementing the agreement.

It should be noted that the agreement was reached against the backdrop of a massive Israeli airstrike on the port of Houthi-controlled Hodeida, damaging oil tanks and a power plant. At least six people were killed and more than 80 injured.
