Social worker Fasharan Azizi sentenced to death in Iran

As reported by the Iranian service of Radio Liberty, citing Iranian human rights activists, the Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced social worker and opposition activist Fasharan Azizi to death.

According to the publication, she was found guilty of treason for joining a group that rebelled against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Her trial took place on June 27-28.

Azizi is being held in the notorious Evin prison, where rights groups say she has spent four months in solitary confinement. She has not been allowed to choose her own lawyer and has been denied visits from her family.
