‘Hamas leader (63) died in Israeli captivity’

Mustafa Muhamad Abu Ara (63) died after being transferred to a hospital from Ramon prison in southern Israel, the Palestinian Commission for Detainee Affairs announced in a statement.

“Prior to his arrest, he suffered from serious health problems and needed intensive medical monitoring. Meanwhile, from the moment of his arrest, Sheikh Abu Ara, like all prisoners, faced crimes without a precedent … since the beginning of the war of extermination”, the press release said.

Abu Ara, who was arrested in October last year, was subjected to torture and deprived of medical care, the Palestinian Authority said.

So far, there is no comment from Israel on this news.

At least 18 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody since the Gaza war began on October 7, the Palestinian Prisoners Association said last month.
