Abbas meets Erdogan in Ankara

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday, a day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
The visit comes at a time when the Middle East is witnessing tension and fears of escalation due to the ongoing war that has been going on for ten months between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, with the efforts to reach a ceasefire faltering and anticipation of the response of Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and a leader in the party in Beirut.
Abbas will meet Erdogan at 15:30 GMT at the presidential palace, according to the Turkish president’s schedule.

Abbas scheduled his visit to Ankara after his meeting with Putin in Moscow on Tuesday. He will address the Turkish parliament in a session dedicated to the Palestinian issue on Thursday.
The last visit of Abbas, who heads the Palestinian Fatah movement, to Turkey dates back to early March.
