Zoran Milanović: ‘Immigration is the biggest challenge. They have to fit in culturally and learn the language’

President of the Republic Zoran Milanović he asserted on Wednesday that immigration is the biggest challenge that Croatia is facing and that this process should be permanently monitored with the aim that when ‘someone here has to fit in culturally, learn the language and accept the local culture’ .

“Immigration and the arrival of foreigners is a reality and the biggest challenge that Croatia is facing, it has never faced a bigger challenge,” Milanovi pointed out. at the plenary session of the Jelsa Municipal Council on the occasion of the Day of that municipality and the Assumption of its Patron Saint.

He also assessed how ‘wars, Russia, Ukraine, crimes in Gaza, murders, war crimes… are things that we look at but from which we can get out if we are smart enough and look at our work’.

“We are a small country and, like every country, a special culture. Everyone thinks about themselves that way and has the right to think – and that’s how we think too. It’s a process when foreigners come to our country, and they keep coming to a certain extent, which it should be strictly and permanently monitored, observed from all sides with the aim that when someone finally has to fit in culturally, learn the language, accept the local culture,” said Milanović clarifying that he “doesn’t mean religion but culture, which is similar but also different”.

He also asserted that there are fewer and fewer Croats and realistically their number will not grow. In this context, he said that “we and our children will have to do those jobs that we thought we would leave to someone there who is a little darker than us”. No work is shameful, but it must be rewarded, said Milanovic.

At the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the Municipality in Jelsa, he asserted that we should always strive for better and better quality, ‘and we are strong in the sun and the sea’.

“And maybe that’s one concept that makes you feel a little better, because that’s what nature gave you, dear God. However, it’s a special competitive advantage of Croatia, which other countries mostly don’t have, and that should be jealously guarded, Croatia.” I should think about it every day,” said the president of the Republic of Milan.

The head of the municipality of Jelsa, Nikša Peronja, said that Jelsa has changed a lot over the years. “From a small town it has become a small town. We are all satisfied with that, and we are especially happy when tourists tell us that they are satisfied with everything and that they are happy with the direction Jelsa is going,” he said. Peronja.

Minister of Health Vili Beroš attended the ceremony in Jelsa, among others, on behalf of the Prime Minister.
