Britain condemns ‘abhorrent’ settler attacks in West Bank

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Friday condemned in the “strongest terms” a “hateful” attack by Israeli settlers on a Palestinian village in the West Bank.
“The scenes of burning buildings at night, throwing firebombs at cars, and chasing people from their homes are abhorrent. I condemn them in the strongest terms,” he told reporters during a visit to Jerusalem.

International condemnations continue of the attack launched by settlers in the Palestinian village of Jit, which resulted in the death of one person and the serious injury of another, on Thursday, which was strongly denounced by Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

The White House also condemned the “unacceptable” attacks in the West Bank.
According to the Israeli army, dozens of Israelis stormed the town of Jit, located between Nablus and Qalqilya, setting fire to buildings and vehicles, and throwing stones and Molotov cocktails.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that the attack resulted in the death of Mahmoud Abdel Qader Sedda, 23, “by settler fire,” while another Palestinian was seriously injured after being shot in the chest.

A statement issued by Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that the Israeli prime minister “takes seriously the riots that took place on Thursday evening in the village of Jit,” stressing that “those responsible for any criminal act will be arrested and prosecuted.”
