Vietnam: Six-year-old boy found after five days lost in forest

A six-year-old Vietnamese boy has been found alive five days after he went missing in a forest without food or drink after playing with his siblings in a stream in Yen Bai province in northwest Vietnam.

Dang Tien Lam from Van Yen district went missing on August 17 when he and his nine siblings went to play in a stream while visiting relatives and the family raised the alarm when he did not return, Vietnamese media outlet VN Express reported.

District authorities mobilized about 200 people, including police and soldiers, to search for the boy in the forest, nearby streams and ponds.

Farmer Ly Van Nang, 52, found the little boy on Wednesday. after hearing his complaints when he was on his way to lunch and found him next to a bush unable to walk from exhaustion and hunger.

“I picked him up and he told me he was tired and hungry, asking if I had anything to eat,” Nang said, adding that the boy went five days without eating or drinking.

The farmer took the boy to his tent to feed and water him before calling authorities.

The boy disappeared in a forested area between Yen Bai and Lao Cai districts and was found about six kilometers from where he disappeared.
