According to the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020, the function of ensuring the safety of communications passing through the territory of the Republic of Armenia is reserved to the Republic of Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced.
“Recently, a high-ranking official of the Russian Federation announced that in the tripartite declaration of November 9, it is written that the security of transport communications between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan should be ensured by the forces of the border guard troops of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. I want to say that there is no such thing written in the tripartite statement of November 9. It is plain, public text that can be opened and read. On the contrary, it is written there that the Republic of Armenia ensures and guarantees the security of communication,” said Nikol Pashinyan at the meeting with the participants of the “Summer School” program of the National Assembly in the Government.
About two weeks ago, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that the Armenian government is “sabotaging” the agreements reached on the issue of unblocking infrastructure and stressed that the issue should be resolved in accordance with the letter and spirit of the tripartite declarations of 2020-2022.
