An attempt to run over a Christmas market in Europe was thwarted

The authorities in Germany report thwarting an attempt to attack the Christmas market in the Dingolfing area, in the state of Bavaria in southern Germany. According to the details that are known, the attack on the market, the exact name of which was not allowed to be published, was supposed to be carried out by means of a vehicle.

Among the arrested suspects is a 56-year-old Egyptian, a 37-year-old Syrian and three Moroccans aged 22, 28 and 30.

The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Hermann, told the “Bild” newspaper that “thanks to the excellent cooperation of our security authorities, it was possible to arrest a number of suspects in a short time, thereby preventing a possible Islamic-motivated attack in Bavaria.”

The tightening of security procedures is taking place against the background of a number of security incidents that have agitated Germany in the past year. The worst of them occurred last December, when Taleb A., a 50-year-old born in Saudi Arabia, ran over six people to death and injured over 300 others after he drove his car into the Christmas market in Magdeburg.
