Chaos in Europe: dead and out of power

Three people died in Sweden after the powerful storm “Johannes” swept through the Scandinavian countries, causing transportation disruptions and power outages. Sweden’s meteorological agency issued warnings of strong winds in large areas of the northern half of the country as the storm hit.

Meanwhile, a man in his 50s was killed after being hit by a tree at the Kongsberg ski resort in the south of the country, as reported by local media and the police. North from there, the regional electricity company Hemab She said that one of her employees was killed in an accident while at work.

Police also said that a man in his 60s was taken to hospital after being hit by a tree while working in the forest in Hofors, in east-central Sweden, and later died of his injuries.

At the same time tens of thousands of homes in Sweden, Norway and Finland were left without electricity as a result of the storm. Swedish news agency TT reported that more than 40,000 homes were affected by power outages and many public transport services were canceled in Sweden.

In the Scandinavian countries, a number of flights, train services and ferries in various regions were canceled due to the severe weather conditions. In the Nordland region of Norway, one of the northernmost regions in the country, fire services handled more than 200 weather-related incidents, according to a report by public broadcaster NRK.

According to the report, Storm Johannes caused a power outage in approximately 23,000 homes in Nordland, with 9,000 homes left without power in the Inland region.
