Thieves steal safe and use freshly prepared ski slope – bad luck that they weren’t alone

To ski? But yes! Hardly anything is more fun in winter than gliding quickly on a non-slip snow surface. But of course that doesn’t apply to the Christmas holidays, especially not to the ones that have just ended.

Anyone who has been on the ski slopes in the past two weeks has been able to experience once again the result that the following calculation leads to: lots of people plus little skiing knowledge plus narrow slopes minus sufficient snow. The bottom line was collisions, abandoned snowboards flying down the slopes, and skiers going off the slopes and falling.

With so little snow on both sides of the Alps, it is a winter wonder that skiing is even possible. Of course, only with great effort from the snow cannons, which are at least doing their expensive job due to the icy cold that is currently prevailing. And don’t forget the many snow groomer drivers who do their monotonous work night after night to redistribute the little snow that the skiers have carved down during the day over the entire slope area. We would like to express our thanks to you as all skiers!

This applies in particular to those men who, on one of the last nights at 3:30 a.m. in the Tyrolean ski resort of Fieberbrunn, in addition to their regular duties, also helped out a car that had gotten stuck on a flat slope at the valley station. According to ORF, the snow groomer drivers pushed the SUV so that it could get onto the nearby road and drive away.

However, they must have noticed that the two men were wearing strange balaclavas and there was an angular metal thing in the trunk of the car that looked suspiciously like a safe. In any case, the brave snow groomer drivers immediately alerted the police, who immediately launched a manhunt. A little later the car was stopped by a patrol. It turned out that the two men actually had a safe in the trunk. It came from a bar at the valley station. The police did not say whether it was an après-ski or just a Kaiserschmarrn restaurant. Nothing was learned about the amount of money that was in the safe. But given the large number of holidaymakers present during the Christmas holidays, it probably wasn’t small.

In addition, the car and the two thieves were recorded by a webcam that normally transmits the snow conditions in the ski area.

What does all this tell us, other than that amateur thieves were at work here? At least some of them were not as smart as the colleagues who also robbed around 100 million euros from the safe deposit boxes of a bank in Gelsenkirchen during the Christmas holidays after drilling a hole in the reinforced concrete wall from an empty parking garage. Afterwards they dutifully paid their parking ticket and drove away.

First and foremost, the Tyrolean episode bears witness to the great willingness to help the snow groomer drivers, who come to the aid of every guest, whether uninvited or not, if there is a problem. And be it at 3:30 a.m. After all, one or two Dutch people could already be setting off to go back to Rotterdam after the Christmas holidays.

So let’s summarize: The Tyrolean ski resort employee is very helpful, but he is not stupid. Because he can put two and two together. SUV plus two men in balaclavas at 3 a.m. plus a safe-like thing in the trunk is different from a ski vacationer.
