The flight made an emergency landing because the passengers were causing trouble and wanted to take off their clothes

The incident happened on the evening of January 30 on an international flight of Air Asia airline, departing from Cam Ranh airport, Nha Trang to Don Mueang airport, Bangkok. According to Russian media, the male passenger (unidentified) began showing unusual symptoms only a short time after the plane took off.

Many passengers on the same trip said the male tourist initially met and chatted with another man on the plane before becoming mentally unstable.

“He kept going to the bathroom in an agitated state,” a passenger said.

The situation became more tense when this person began arguing violently with the flight attendant, repeatedly demanding to get off the ground immediately even though the plane was in the air. The surrounding passengers tried to calm them down, but this man still could not keep calm and began to scream and be aggressive, demanding to assault the crew.

At the climax of the incident, the male passenger took off his clothes, only wearing underwear and ran along the cabin corridor. This person continuously tried to open the emergency door to leave the plane as the plane was preparing to approach Thai airspace.

Faced with an emergency situation that threatened flight safety, the captain notified air traffic control and made an emergency landing at Don Mueang airport. As soon as the plane landed and the door opened at around 7:00 p.m. (local time), the ladder truck had not yet reached its location, so this male tourist recklessly jumped straight from the plane door onto the runway in an attempt to escape.

The jump from above caused this person to injure his leg. Airport security forces and Thai police quickly arrived at the scene to control and arrest the subject. Russian news site Shot reported that the flight was seriously disrupted. After unsuccessfully trying to run away, this person was escorted by police to headquarters for medical and security investigation.

Currently, the airline has not officially commented on the extent of damage and costs incurred due to the emergency landing. However, according to international aviation regulations, disruptive passengers as above may face heavy financial fines, even being permanently banned from flying and criminal prosecution depending on the severity of the act that threatens aviation security.

This is not the first time airlines have recorded cases of passengers behaving uncontrollably on flights.

In February 2025, a similar incident also occurred on a flight from Khabarovsk, Russia to Phuket, Thailand. A female passenger, after consuming alcoholic beverages, voluntarily undressed right at her seat and had inappropriate behavior with surrounding passengers. This person then fainted and was closely monitored by the crew until the plane landed safely.
