Berlin airport is closed due to ice

Extreme winter weather paralyzed the activities of the Berlin International Airport this evening (Thursday), and led to the fact that an El Al flight had to turn around over Serbia and return to Israel. Following heavy ice that made the runways and activity areas particularly dangerous, the airport management had to suspend all incoming and outgoing flights until tomorrow.

“All the routes are like glass, it’s a danger to life,” said the spokeswoman of the port, adding that it is still unclear when the activity will resume. At the airport, it was difficult throughout the day to hold takeoffs and landings regularly, due to the extreme weather.

At first, no plane could take off. The first flight took off only in the late morning. The airport canceled 35 out of 180 flights during the day. As a result, the flight schedule suffered significant delays and many cancellations.
