Boiling coffee is spilled on the toddler during the flight, Rainier will compensate the family

The court in Dublin announced today (Saturday) that the Ryanair airline must pay compensation in the amount of 15,500 euros to the family of the 5-year-old, who was about 18 months old at the time of the incident, who was burned by hot coffee during the company’s flight from Spain to Dublin.

The decision in the court in Ireland came after a civil lawsuit filed on behalf of the boy, currently 5 years old, against the airline. According to what was claimed in the discussion, the incident took place about half an hour after taking off from Reus Airport in Spain, on a flight that was only about two hours long. The toddler was sleeping on his mother’s lap when a very hot cup of coffee was spilled on him and hit his arms, upper body and leg.

During the hearing it was claimed that the child suffered severe pain and significant distress during the entire flight. The lawyers stated that he suffered burns in several areas of his body, but no permanent scars remained. It was also claimed that the coffee was served at a particularly high temperature and in a vessel that was not suitable for use, and that the drink was not covered optimally, circumstances which, according to the lawyers, contributed to the incident.

The legal process was managed through the child’s father. The judge approved the settlement between the parties after it was determined that the amount of compensation was reasonable under the circumstances of the case in question. The child’s attorney argued that the chances of the claim being accepted in full were possible, but in the end it was recommended to accept the compromise offer, which also includes court costs.

During the discussion, additional claims were made regarding the company’s readiness for urgent medical events during flights. According to what was claimed, during the flight there was no adequate or suitable first aid equipment for the treatment of burns. Because of this, the toddler’s parents had to use their clothes and mineral water in their possession to cool and cover the affected areas.

When the plane landed in Dublin, the child received emergency treatment and was later transferred to the Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
