Phu Quoc Airport welcomed more than 2.2 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026

Phu Quoc Airport served more than 2.27 million passengers in the first 3 months of the year, an increase of 147% over the same period, the number of take-offs and landings reached nearly 13,800, an increase of 153%.

Growth was recorded in both domestic and international segments. Of which, international visitors reached about 1.2 million, domestic visitors recorded more than 1.07 million. Key markets such as Korea continue to lead the international segment, while the domestic axis Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc maintains a large proportion in total traffic.

In high density operating conditions, the airport still ensures smooth operations, without local overload – a common factor during peak season.

According to a Sun Group representative, this result reflects a new approach to airport operations, when the infrastructure not only plays a transit role but is directly linked to the tourist flow of the destination. Phu Quoc’s role as a tourism center is accelerating, requiring the airport to both meet capacity and flexibly adapt to seasonality and demand fluctuations.

Immediately after taking over operation of Phu Quoc airport from January 1 this year, Sun Group implemented many solutions to improve service quality. The Wi-Fi system covers the entire terminal; enhanced 4G/5G signal; Flight information display has been added and interface optimized; Biometric flight procedures are applied. Automatic non-stop toll collection at the airport entrance and exit area has also been implemented to reduce vehicle congestion during peak hours. Sanitation work is maintained synchronously and continuously upgraded.

From April 17, Phu Quoc International Airport plans to deploy the airline check-in model at the hotel to enhance the convenient experience for guests. Accordingly, passengers can complete check-in and receive boarding passes before leaving for the airport. Checked baggage is received at the hotel and transported directly to the airport according to standard procedures.

In the first phase, the service is deployed at La Festa Phu Quoc Curio Collection by Hilton hotel and New World Phu Quoc Resort, for Sun Phu Quoc Airways passengers. Guests staying in the Sunset Town and Bai Khem areas can also use the service. The model is expected to expand in the near future, contributing to shortening check-in time for passengers instead of having to arrive at the airport early.

In parallel with operation, preparations for the next stage of development are accelerated. The signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with Changi Airports International in March marked a step towards bringing 5-star operating standards to Phu Quoc International Airport, shaping the “destination airport” model with seamless experience.

The project to expand Phu Quoc airport with a scale of more than 1,050 hectares is also being implemented. The rough structure of terminal T2 reached about 85% and moved to the stage of erecting the roof steel structure. VIP station has completed 100% of the rough parts, the roof structure is about 60%, moving quickly towards the completion stage.

When completed, the airport’s capacity is expected to reach 24 million passengers per year and can expand to 50 million in the long term, meeting the needs of tourism growth and serving major international events such as APEC 2027.

In the beginning of the second quarter of 2026, Sun Group continued to sign a cooperation agreement with SITA to supplement digital infrastructure, aiming for a model of automatic passenger verification and check-in in Southeast Asia. Automation and biometric solutions will be gradually deployed from check-in kiosks, self-baggage drop-off areas to automatic boarding gates, helping to shorten waiting times and improve operational efficiency.

The activities are expected to help Phu Quoc airport shape into a model airport, serving tourism growth and enhancing the destination position of the pearl island.
