Trentodoc from Trentino: The wine from the mountains – Travel

“There are exactly 22 different grape varieties,” says Daniele Endrizzi, junior manager of the Endrizzi winery of the same name, located in San Michele all’Adige. “We planted them in a row next to each other. This way you can taste the grapes in direct comparison.” For example, Riesling next to Moscato, Marzemino next to Teroldego, both of which are native to Trentino, and Chardonnay next to Pinot Noir, from which Trentodoc is made. This sparkling wine is not yet so well known in Germany, but is now among the international top class. The grapes are harvested by hand and, like champagne, fermented in the bottles using the méthode traditionnelle. “We have dolomite rock and no limestone soils like in Champagne, which is why our Trentodoc tastes more mineral,” says Daniele Endrizzi. It is no coincidence that he compares Trentodoc with champagne: they see themselves as equals with the French.
