Continuity in coaching positions is the most important thing

Managing director Lars Ricken has noticed a lack of consistency in the coaching position at Borussia Dortmund in the recent past. The most important thing is continuity, said the 48-year-old ex-professional in an interview with Sportschau with a view to the sporting goals and said: “We have had too many changes in the coaching position recently.”

Achieve maximum success in all four competitions

After Jürgen Klopp’s seven-year era, Thomas Tuchel coached BVB for two seasons from the summer of 2015. Peter Posz then remained in office for half a year before Peter Stöger took over as head coach of the Westphalians for the rest of the 2017/2018 season.

Lucien Favre then stayed for around two and a half years, followed by Edin Terzic in December 2020. From July 1, 2021, Marco Rose was in charge until May 20, 2022. After that, Terzic came back, who was replaced by Nuri Sahin before this season.

RIcken feels comfortable with the squad

In terms of players, Ricken believes BVB is well equipped. “We want to be as successful as possible in all four competitions, Bundesliga, Champions League, Cup and Club World Cup, and we are very ambitious. To do this, we need a competitive squad – and we feel very comfortable with what we have now,” he said.

After the departure of the two long-standing BVB professionals Marco Reus and Mats Hummels, Ricken sees new signing and national player Pascal Groß as one of the new identification figures for Dortmund. The 33-year-old moved from Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League to the Bundesliga this summer.

Who else besides national player Groß?

Gross will have a great influence on the team, predicted Ricken, and also mentioned 18-year-old Julien Duranville, “who can get the fans excited. Jule Brandt wants to take on even more responsibility, as the number 10 shows – and he received the most applause at the season opener. Nico Schlotterbeck says in every interview how cool he thinks it is to play for a club like Borussia Dortmund. That’s four – but there are a few more.”
