No one can influence Armenia-Iran relations. ambassador

The Armenian-Iranian cooperation is about age-old friendship, the future is also clear, announced Mehdi Sobhani, Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, yesterday in Kapan. He emphasized that no one can influence the relations between the two countries, Public JSC reports.

Referring to Iran’s position regarding the Zangezur Corridor, Mehdi Sobhani said that Tehran is against anything.

“We don’t want to use that word. We agree to the opening of communications in the event that this will happen on the basis of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. Also, we’re against anything that has cross-channel logic. We are against any geopolitical change,” he said, according to Armenpress.

Yerevan and Baku have been negotiating on the unblocking of transport communications for four years, but to no avail. The Armenian side is against the logic of the corridor, and Azerbaijan, using the term “Zangezur Corridor” these years, demands passage through Syunik to its exclave Nakhichevan without inspections. It was because of these differences that the issue was removed from the peace agreement by mutual consent in August.

“Armenia-Iran. During the expert workshop entitled “cooperation and prospects”, the ambassador emphasized that Tehran welcomes Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, but believes that any lifting of the blockade should be carried out under the territorial integrity, sovereignty and control of the given country.

According to him, the border between Armenia and Iran is a border of friendship.
