US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is in Jordan to discuss the consequences of the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He has already met with King Abdullah II of Jordan and will also leave for Turkey this evening.
Blinken called to start an “inclusive” process to form the next government of Syria, in which the rights of minorities will also be protected.
Announcing the visit, the State Department said Blinken would discuss US priorities to ensure the security and destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and ensure that the country is not used as a “terrorist base”.
