A sight to cry. These little monkeys are in a cardboard box. Exhausted, dehydrated, malnourished, abused. Your age is estimated to be a maximum of two months.
A couple was caught smuggling six monkey babies in their underpants from Colombia. Security officers confiscated two white shoulder cheese and four Lisztäffchen at José Córdova Airport in Rionegro. The couple had stuffed the little animals in fabric bags and then into their underwear. Two of the little ones did not survive the ordeal, the other four are in critical condition.
The smuggler couple was arrested
The monkeys are an endangered species. The environmental authority Cornare examined the animals and found “lesions and a significant level of stress”.
“We decidedly reject this type of wildlife trade,” said Cornare director Javier Valencia Gonzalez. “Wild animals have to remain in freedom. We cannot allow this illegal activity in our country and worldwide.”
