Lula government accuses USA of violating Iran’s sovereignty with attack

The Lula Government Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke on Sunday afternoon (22) about the United States bombing against three Iran’s nuclear facilities on Saturday night (21), and said that President Donald Trump’s management violated the sovereignty of Iran, as well as transgressing the United Nations and the rules of the Atomic International Energy Agency (AIEA).

“The Brazilian government expresses a serious concern with military climbing in the Middle East and vehemently condemns, in this context, military attacks from Israel and, more recently, from the United States, against nuclear facilities, in violation of the sovereignty of Iran and international law,” said the Lula government in a statement issued by Itamaraty.

The Brazilian president has attacked the state of Israel and caused a diplomatic crisis by calling the reaction of the Israeli government in the “genocide” Gaza range after the Hamas terrorist attack in October 2023.

The federal government also stated that the US attack endangers the Iranians because of the possibility of leakage of radioactive material in the foundations used for uranium enrichment. “Armed actions against nuclear facilities represent a serious threat to the life and health of civilian populations, explaining them to the risk of radioactive contamination and large-scale environmental disasters,” he criticized.

The Lula government recalled the “historical position in favor of the exclusive use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes” and condemned nuclear proliferation in the Middle East, a region historically marked by geopolitical instability.

“Brazil also repudiates reciprocal attacks against densely populated areas, which have caused a growing number of victims and damage to civil infrastructure, including hospital facilities, which are specially protected by International Humanitarian Law,” Iran’s Itamaraty note told Iran’s Air attacks on the capital of Israel, Tel Aviv.

The Lula administration also stressed the “urgent need for diplomatic solution” and called for peace of negotiations for peace in the Middle East due to the global impacts of a war between Iran and Israel, accentuated by the support of the United States to the government of Benjamin Netanyahu. “The negative consequences of the current military escalation can lead to irreversible damage to peace and stability in the region and the world and the regime of non -proliferation and nuclear disarmament.”
