Swimmer (61) wants to go to the other shore and drowns
Neubrandenburg – The swimming excursion of a tourist group of six at the Tollensesee ended tragically on Saturday.
The swimmers wanted to cross the up to 18 meter deep lake in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania together. On the way to the other shore, an American (61) got into trouble and went under unnoticed.
She was the last of the group to start near Klein Nemerow. Heavy waves and strong currents apparently robbed her of her strength. Then on the route to Gatsch-Eck it came to a death throes.
In the afternoon, her body was discovered floating between the two locations on the lake. “The alarmed and deployed fire brigade had to recover a female body and bring it ashore,” reported police spokesman Marco Sellke.
The group reported another swimmer missing. In a large contingent, sniffer dogs, helicopters, water police and volunteers searched for hours for the 37-year-old from Canada.
Then in the evening the all-clear: the man is alive! He had safely crossed the lake and only reported to his group a while after his arrival on the other bank.
