A Ukrainian man was cut into pieces: ‘Mom, dad, they cut off my limbs. Give them back their millions’

The case had a sinister undertone from the beginning, since Igor is the son of Oleksandr “Narik” Petrovsky, a powerful and controversial businessman from Dnieper. For years, the Ukrainian media wrote about Petrovsky’s enormous business influence, his ties to high politics, and his alleged connection to the city’s criminal underworld. Although “Narik” was never convicted of any crime, the video of the abducted son suggests that the motive was revenge related to his father’s business.

‘Mom, dad, return the ten million you stole’

A few days after the kidnapping, a terrifying, grainy video of Komarov being beaten appeared on Telegram. With visible lashes on both eyes, broken and in tears, he begs his parents to pay a ransom of ten million US dollars.

His words, spoken under apparent coercion, reveal the gruesome details of the torture and the background of the kidnapping.

​- Mom, Dad, please help me. You stole the ten million they are looking for, please return the ten million.

In a three-minute monologue full of despair, Komarov describes the hell he is going through, at one point he raises a wrapped and bloody hand, which seems to be missing a fist.

​- Return ćin everything to those people you took from, butć they cut off some of my limbs, I have broken legs and broken ribs. Već I’m on medication, I have no more limbs. Soon the infection will start. I’m just dying. Please, this is a very serious organization, help me, no one can find me.

In the message, he begged parents not to involve the police or “mafias”, claiming that it is more taken to another country and that the kidnappers let the money go to their account.

Investigators were able to identify one of the vehicles used in the kidnapping, a rental car, and tracked it via GPS to a luxury villa in Tabanan, on the west coast of Bali. The villa was empty, but the police found a mobile phone and a bag belonging to the victim inside, as well as traces of blood. Forensic analysis later confirmed that the blood matched the traces found in the vehicle, but also the DNA sample of Komarov’s mother. The case received the blackest possible epilogue on February 27, when the police announced that at the mouth of the Wos river, about thirty kilometers from the villa, dismembered human remains were found – the head, right leg, parts of the chest and internal organs.

The coroner initially stated that the tattoos on the found limbs “partially” match those of Komarov and that the characteristics of the skull point to a Caucasian person. The official confirmation came a few days later, when it was unequivocally established by DNA analysis that the remains belonged to Igor Komarov.

The police soon arrested a foreign citizen with the initials CH, who rented the vehicle used in the crime using a fake passport. A warrant has been issued for six more foreign nationals, identified by the initials RM, BK, AS, VN, SM and DH.

It is believed that four of them managed to escape from Bali via the international airport, while the search for the remaining two is still ongoing. All the suspects were placed on the Indonesian list of wanted persons, as well as on the red notice of Interpol.
