Trump got fed up: An unfortunate consequence in Europe

“The USA is tired of paying more for medicines than Europe and the rest of the world”, CEO of Orion Liisa Hurme explained Kauppalehti live Economic morning on Monday.

“The USA is trying to put pressure on Europe to raise the price of medicines by referencing the prices of medicines in the USA from OECD countries that have roughly the same level of gross national product as the USA,” said Hurme.

According to Hurmee, medicines in Europe are cheaper than in the United States.

“Either the prices of drugs will go down in the USA or they will go up in Europe. Now it’s a bit of a wait to see where this balance will slowly settle.”

The consequences are already visible.

“Unfortunately, we have seen that launches in Europe have decreased”, Hurme said and continued: “They [lääkeyritykset] want to keep the world’s largest pharmaceutical market to themselves and don’t want to ruin it [pilata] its price.”
