Bangladesh | Video of the moment a bus falls into the Padma River, leaving at least 25 dead

According to the local newspaper Dhaka Tribune, The Shouharda Paribahan company bus was waiting to board when the Hasna Hena ferry collided with the docking pontoonwhich caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control and fall into the water.

Emergency crews recovered 23 bodies from inside the bus, which fIt was refloated during the early hours of this Thursday with the help of the rescue vessel Hamza.

The total death toll rose to 25 after the death of two women was confirmed in hospital. who had initially been rescued alive.

Among the fatalities are eleven women, seven men and five children.including a seven-month-old baby.

The authorities confirmed to local media that the majority of the bodies have already been identified and delivered to their relatives on the dock itself.

Following the accident, the district administration has formed a five-member inquiry committee, headed by Additional Magistrate Uchen Mey, to determine whether there was negligence in the maneuver of the ferry that caused the impact.

These types of accidents are a constant in Bangladesh a country crisscrossed by hundreds of rivers where river transport is the backbone of national mobility.

Despite the recent modernization of infrastructure, ports record annual accidents usually attributed to the precariousness of safety protocols during loading operations and the poor condition of docking pontoons.
