Trump: “We are talking to Iran, they are good at negotiations”

US President Donald Trump said this evening (Thursday) at the US Cabinet meeting that the US is conducting talks with Iran, despite the official reaction of the Revolutionary Guards – who set strict conditions for the Americans. “Iran is begging to make a deal – not me,” said the US president, “Iran says it’s not talking to us – they’re talking to us.”

“The Iranians are good at negotiations,” added the American president. “They want to reach a deal. I don’t know if we’ll be able to do it.” According to him, the US is talking to the Iranians, “but the one we’re talking to can’t communicate with the rest.” He also claimed that the Iranians are talking to the US because they have “been through a disaster”.

“The Iranians have been defeated, they have a chance to reach a deal,” he explained. “If we reach the right deal – the Strait of Hormuz will reopen. Iran has an opportunity to abandon their nuclear ambitions. If they don’t, we will be their worst nightmare. In the meantime, we will continue to bomb them.”

Trump was asked if he had a new deadline for Iran and replied: We have serious talks with Iran, with the right people. The Iranians gave us a gift to prove they were serious and allowed eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The ships that passed were with the flag of Pakistan. And they even let two more ships pass.”

He added: “Iran should not be allowed to charge a fee for crossing the Strait of Hormuz.” He described: “Even if we eliminate 99% of Iran’s military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz and only one percent remains – this is still a problem.” According to him, “taking over Iran’s oil is one of the possibilities.”

Trump: “We have additional targets that we want to attack before ending the war. I am not desperate to end the campaign.”

Vice President JD Vance also commented on the war at the cabinet meeting: “What we have now is the ability to use all our tools to ensure that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon.”

The one who sounded optimistic about the possibility of reaching a deal was the special envoy of the White House for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff. “Many countries from the region turned to us to end the war peacefully,” he said. “We presented Iran with a 15-point plan that could be a framework for an agreement. We conveyed it to Iran through Pakistan. This led to positive talks.”

He added: “We will see where things lead and if we succeed in convincing Iran that they have reached a point where they have no better alternative. We have strong signs that an agreement can be reached, Iran is looking for a way out of the war. We told them not to miscalculate again.”

Earlier today, Iran published its response to the American proposal to end the war, which contains 15 articles. Iran demanded compensation for the war damages and the end of fighting on all fronts, as well as recognition of Iranian sovereignty in the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian source claimed that the negotiation proposal is an “American fraud project”.
