12,000 fans celebrate a darts party in Berlin

Dressed as Vikings, Maya the Bee or chicken legs, around 12,000 darts fans celebrated a colorful Premier League party in Berlin. The arena at Ostbahnhof was almost sold out when world champion Luke Littler won. The 19-year-old Englishman beat the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the final of the eighth matchday and took the lead in the ranking. In the final he even managed a 170 finish twice.

The spectators experienced the most emotional moment of the evening right after the first quarter-final. Northern Irishman Josh Rock won 6-3 against Jonny Clayton and celebrated his first ever success in the historic darts competition. Tears were still flowing on stage at the bottom of the Premier League. In the semi-final against van Gerwen, Rock had to admit defeat 3:6.

Boos against Littler? Speaker calls for fairness

It was eagerly awaited how Littler would be received by the fans. In the past there were regular boos against the teenager on German soil. “Apparently we English people don’t like the Germans very much,” Littler once said. The presenter on stage therefore appealed to the fans to behave fairly. There were a few whistles against Littler this time too, but significantly fewer than in the past.

Next to the World Cup, the Premier League is considered the most popular darts event of the year. It takes place on a total of 17 match days. The final of the best four will take place on May 28th in London.
