Pakistan urges parties to “exercise restraint” and respect ceasefire after violations

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, denounced this Wednesday the “violations of the ceasefire” recorded in recent hours in the Middle East,” urging the parties to “act with restraint” and respect the cessation of hostilities for two weeks as agreed.

“Violation of the ceasefire has been recorded in several parts of the conflict zone, which undermines the spirit of the peace process. I strongly urge all parties to act with restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks, as agreed, so that diplomacy can play a leading role towards the peaceful resolution of the conflict,” he said on social media.

Sharif has addressed this message to senior officials in the United States and Iran, including US President Donald Trump; Vice President JD Vance; the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio; special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as the Iranian president, Masud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf.

Trump has announced the suspension of attacks against Iran for a period of two weeks, while Tehran has reported that during this time “safe” passage through the strategic Strait of Hormuz will be possible, although “through coordination” with the Asian country’s Army.

For his part, Sharif has stated that the agreement includes the parties and “their allies” and is an “immediate ceasefire throughout the territory, including Lebanon and other places”, although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out that the pact includes Israeli operations in Lebanese territory.
