Trump invited Iran to create a joint venture to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump said in an interview with ABC News that the United States is considering the possibility of creating a “joint venture” with Iran that would ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We’re thinking about this kind of joint venture. It’s a way to provide security – and protection from a lot of other people,” he said. Asked whether he would allow Iran to charge a toll on passage through Hormuz, Trump said: “That’s great.”

The president also said he would not allow Iran to continue enriching uranium – despite statements from the ayatollah regime that Tehran has not made concessions on this issue. Trump said that American troops deployed to the region would remain in the Middle East, making it clear that they would monitor compliance with the agreement.

The US leader said negotiations were set to begin on April 10 and he expected rapid progress. He also confirmed that China played a key role in negotiations with Iran.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, at a joint briefing with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Kane, said that the Strait of Hormuz has opened to shipping and ships will begin to use it: “It’s time for the rest of the world to speak up and ensure that it remains open.”
