US intelligence agencies indicate that China is preparing to deliver new air defense systems to Iran in the next few weeks, CNN reported late Friday, citing three people familiar with the recent intelligence assessments.
The television network said there were indications Beijing was working to route the shipments through third countries to conceal their origin.
The US State Department, the White House, the Chinese Embassy in Washington and the Chinese Foreign Ministry have not yet responded to Reuters requests for comment.
Beijing is preparing to transfer hand-held anti-aircraft missile systems known as MANPADs, according to CNN, citing unnamed sources.
The US and Iran are holding high-level talks in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Saturday, seeking ways to end the six-week-long war.
