Trump says China agreed not to send weapons to Iran

The comment was made on the same day that the British newspaper Financial Times published an investigation that found that the Iranian regime used a Chinese spy satellite to identify and attack American military bases in the current conflict.

“China is very happy that I am permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz. I am doing it for them too – and for the world. This situation will never happen again. They have agreed not to send weapons to Iran. President Xi will give me a big, warm hug when I get there in a few weeks,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network, mentioning his upcoming trip to Beijing.

“We are working together intelligently and very efficiently! Isn’t that better than fighting? But remember, we are very good at fighting if we have to – much better than any other country!”, added the American president.

Earlier, in an interview with Fox Business, Trump had already spoken about the subject, saying that he and Xi Jinping exchanged letters about reports that China was planning to send weapons to Iran, and that in this exchange of messages the Chinese dictator assured him that he “wouldn’t do that”.

Last week, CNN reported, based on information from American intelligence services, that China is preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran in the coming weeks. The news made Trump threaten to impose 50% tariffs on imports from the Asian country.

This Wednesday, the Financial Times reported that Iran secretly acquired a Chinese spy satellite in late 2024, giving it a significant new capability to identify and attack American military bases in the current war in the Middle East.

The Financial Times analyzed images captured by the TEE-01B satellite in March, before and after attacks on sites in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq, which coincide with surveillance actions close to the dates of Iranian-claimed bombings of facilities in those countries.

This acquisition, according to the Financial Times, represented a significant improvement in Iran’s military capabilities, as it would allow it to improve the identification of aircraft, vehicles and changes in infrastructure.
