Shares of chipmaker Intel, which has suffered from structural problems in recent years, rose 51% in the last eight days of trading. This is the company’s best weekly performance since January 2020 and the sharpest jump in a comparable number of trading days in its history.
Such an optimistic mood among investors is due to the flow of news that the corporation, which has lagged behind its competitors for many years and lost its leadership in production, has generated in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, Intel agreed to pay $14.2 billion to buy half of its Irish plant from Apollo Global Management. Last week, the corporation announced its entry into Elon Musk’s Terra-Fab project to develop semiconductors for Tesla, SpaceX and xAI. Following this, Alphabet confirmed its intention to use the next generations of Intel Xeon processors in its data centers.
Intel shares are up 69% year to date, on top of an 84% surge in 2025 driven by investments from Nvidia, SoftBank and the US government. However, the stock is still about 8.9% below its 2020 peak.
