Scammed British tourist paid £1,500 for a kebab on the beach in Rio

Recently, similar cases have become more frequent in Rio: tourists have already been deceived when selling drinks and food, raising prices tens and hundreds of times. Among the victims were travelers from Argentina and Colombia, who were forced to pay thousands of reais for simple purchases like acai or corn.

Rio’s tourism police say they are actively working to identify the organizers of the schemes, citing weak controls on the beaches as one of the reasons for the surge in such crimes. Despite this, authorities emphasize that most trips to the city occur without incident, and tourism continues to grow, including thanks to large-scale events and concerts by world stars.
