Sailing: Start of the Bundesliga season

Next weekend the sailors will start their 14th Bundesliga season. On Lake Starnberg, the Munich rowing and sailing club “Bayern” von 1910 eV (MRSV) and the German Touring Yacht Club (DTYC) are organizing the first day of competition together on the MRSV grounds. Around 150 athletes in 36 teams from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga will compete against each other in short, intensive races from Friday, April 17th to Sunday, April 19th.

The start is on uniform class J/70 keelboats, each manned by four-person crews. It is sailed according to the tried and tested league format with races lasting around 15 to 20 minutes. The weekend races take place in Starnberg’s North Bay in the immediate vicinity of the waterfront. If you can’t be there live, a live stream is available on YouTube.

In addition to the Bavarian Yacht Club and the Munich Yacht Club, the top favorites for the 2026 season also include the Bodensee Yacht Club Überlingen, the Mühlenberger Sailing Club, the Joersfelder Sailing Club, the Sailing and Motorboat Club Überlingen and the North German Regatta Association. The level of performance in the league is higher than ever before – at least six to eight teams have a realistic chance of winning the championship trophy this season.
