Faced with “the inconsistency of the accusation”, the Spanish Supreme Court confirms the acquittal of Neymar and two ex-presidents of Barça

This matter is now behind Neymar. This Wednesday, the Spanish Supreme Court confirmed the acquittal of the Brazilian international and the former presidents of FC Barcelona, Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, of charges of corruption between individuals and fraud in the context of the transfer of the player from Santos to the Catalan club, reports EFE.

The criminal chamber of the court rejected the appeals against the judgment of the Barcelona Court of Appeal, which dates back to December 2022. At the time, it had already decided to acquit Neymar, his father and the Barcelona leaders, having found no offense or “prejudice for the plaintiffs”. Three years later, the Supreme Court highlighted “the inconsistency of the accusation”.

Dramatic twist in 2022

The 2022 trial was marked by an incredible twist when the prosecution withdrew its charges against all of the defendants. Initially, he demanded two years in prison and ten million euros against the man who has since returned to his training club Santos.

As AFP recalled, the Brazilian company DIS took the case to court in 2015, claiming that Barça, Neymar and his family, then Santos subsequently, had joined forces to conceal the real amount of the transfer and “defraud” him. The company then held 40% of the footballer’s rights when he played for Santos before leaving for Barcelona,

She also criticized them for not having informed her of the existence of an exclusivity contract signed in 2011 between the ex-Parisian and Barça, which distorted – according to her – the transfer window.
