A blessing in disguise for Lamine Yamal: The FC Barcelona offensive star will probably be able to play for European champions Spain at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada despite his thigh injury. Yamal’s injury is being treated “conservatively,” the club said on Thursday: “Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of the season and is expected to be available again for the World Cup.”
It was an injury to a thigh muscle in the left leg. The Spanish newspaper had already reported on this Sports World reported that investigations on Thursday now brought certainty. The World Cup starts on June 11th and Yamal could be fit just in time if he recovers without complications.
“It’s not easy. We have to rest him. It’s a shame for us,” said coach Hansi Flick after Barcelona’s 1-0 (1-0) win against Celta Vigo. Yamal scored the winning goal with a penalty kick in the 40th minute on Wednesday evening. Immediately afterwards he grabbed his thigh and had to leave the pitch. He had already struggled with a groin injury in the first half of the season.
