The giant company announced: from now on it is forbidden to take pictures of other people on the flight

The British aviation giant “British Airways” has added to its flight regulations a clause according to which photographing other passengers or crew members without their consent may lead to the cancellation of the ticket and a future flight ban in the company. The company clarified that the plane is not considered a “public place”, even though in Britain itself it is usually allowed to photograph people in a public space without permission. According to the company, since boarding is conditional on a ticket, this is an area where the company is allowed to set its own rules.

The unacceptable behavior section states that if there is a reasonable suspicion that a passenger has photographed or broadcast without consent, the company may take steps to stop the behavior. In practice, this can end up being taken off the plane upon landing, canceling the continued validity of the ticket and reporting to local authorities.

The company does not explain what led to the change. It is possible that this is preparation for the introduction of fast Wi-Fi based on Starlink, which can allow live broadcasts from inside the plane. Another option is aligning with other airlines that already prohibit such photography.

Even at KLM, for example, passengers are reminded at the beginning of the flight that it is forbidden to take pictures of the crew without permission. The new British Airways update applies not only to phones, but also to photographic glasses and body cameras.
