Shocking: an asylum seeker pushed a 16-year-old girl to death under a train

A court in Germany ruled that an asylum seeker whose application was rejected pushed a 16-year-old girl to her death under a train traveling at high speed, in an incident that took place in August in the town of Geiselden in Germany.

The victim, Leanna K. from Ukraine, was on the phone with her grandfather moments before she was pushed. According to reports, the grandfather heard her screams and then the noise of the approaching train. Liana was killed after being pushed onto a railroad track just as a freight train was passing by at a speed of about 100 km/h.

Although there were no eyewitnesses and no documentation from security cameras, the asylum seeker was convicted after the prosecution presented DNA evidence according to which traces of the suspect were found on the girl’s shoulder. The court determined that Muhammad A., 31, from Iraq, was the one who committed the act.

However, he will not face trial for murder after it was determined that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and is not criminally responsible for his actions. Instead, the court ordered his hospitalization in a secure psychiatric facility.

During the hearings, the attacker did not respond to the allegations against him. Observers noted that he expressed no remorse, even though Liana’s mother was present in the courtroom. On the other hand, he claimed that he suffered improper treatment from the emergency teams who delayed him on the day of the incident. The defense sought to acquit him due to lack of evidence, while the lawyer for the victim’s family demanded a conviction for murder.

According to what appears in the publications regarding the difficult case, Muhammad A. Arrived in Germany in 2022 but his asylum request was rejected. A few weeks before the incident, he was detained in Hanover, where he was awaiting transfer to Lithuania, but the transfer request was rejected and he was released back to the community. Three weeks later the fatal attack occurred. It was also reported that the day before the incident, he went to a psychiatric clinic in Göttingen on his own initiative, but left it against the doctors’ advice, and then committed the act.

Liana’s mother said that her daughter had big plans for the future, and that only two months earlier she had started training as a dentist’s assistant. According to her, at first she thought that the attacker would be punished, but now she fears that he will avoid punishment by claiming mental illness. She added that she fears that after future release, he may commit further offenses without remorse.
