PP and PSOE agree in Congress to ask the Government to pay tribute to Marisa Paredes

The Congressional Culture Commission has approved a Non-Law Proposition (PNL) by which it urges the Government to promote and promote the work and figure of the actress Marisa Paredesdied on December 17, 2024 at age 78.

The proposal has gone ahead with 31 votes in favor, three votes against and two abstentions. The approved initiative is the result of an amendment by the PP to the original text of the PSOE, which proposes celebrating Marisa Paredes through the programming of a cycle of activities: screenings/round tables focused on the best titles of her career at the Spanish Film Library.

The PP amendment introduces continuity to the first cycle of 2025 of the Spanish Film Library, titled ‘Marisa Paredes. The pain and the humorand is organized in coordination with the film libraries of the autonomous communities.

Likewise, this Wednesday other NLPs were also debated and voted on, which have also been approved, such as the socialist proposal on the involvement of youth in the conservation of culture and heritage in rural areas, approved with 31 votes in favor, three against and one abstention. The ‘popular’ PNL has also been approved, which urges the Executive to value the figure of Don Felipe de Neve y Padilla, on the third centenary of his birth, with 32 yeses, three abstentions and one vote against.

Among them, an initiative by Sumar has been approved to adopt reparation measures towards Cipriano Salvador and the town of Almedina (Ciudad Real) for the protection of the work ‘The Holy Generation’, exhibited in the Prado Museum, which has gone ahead with 32 votes in favor, 3 against and 1 abstention. A proposal by the PSOE to recognize the figure of María Moliner for her commitment to culture and commemorate in 2026 the 60 years of the first printing of her ‘Dictionary of the Use of Spanish’ has also been successful, with 32 votes in favor and 4 abstentions.

Likewise, the commission has given the green light, with 33 votes in favor and 3 abstentions, a PP proposal to promote the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pau Casals (1876-2026). On the other hand, with 30 votes in favor and 6 abstentions, Congress has approved the PP initiative urging the Government to “strengthen” and “protect” Spanish Designer Fashion.

On the other hand, Vox’s NLP on intervention and priority conservation of the Spanish historical-artistic heritage has declined, which has only garnered 3 votes in favor, compared to 19 against and 14 abstentions.
