Helsinki is rapidly renovating Meilahti’s pesisstadion

Helsinki the city has started significant improvements to the conditions at the Meilahti stadium, the baseball club Puna-Mustat tells in its announcement.

Renovation is necessary, because Puna-Musat aims to climb to the men’s Superpesi.

The renovation will take two weeks. With the renovation, the number of seats in the stadium will increase to 1,580. Of these, 272 are covered.

Meilahti’s field was last properly renovated in 2007. However, its basic structures have remained almost unchanged since the late 60s, when baseball moved to Meilahti due to the construction of the Finlandia Hall.

For example, the ancient commentary tower that was moved from Hesperia field to Meilahti is only now out of use.

The stands in addition, the city will build new kiosk sales points, toilets, and media and umpire facilities at the stadium. At the same time, the stadium’s electricity and water technology are being improved.

“The high-quality setting attracts more audiences, which creates important role models and experiences for our young players. We strongly believe that the improved audience experience and proximity to role models act as attractive factors for the expansion of our junior work”, Puna-Mustat ry board member Juhantalo soup says in the announcement.

Deputy Mayor of Helsinki Paavo Arhinmäki hopes that improving the conditions at the Meilahti stadium will inspire people to play baseball.

“Roihu’s ascension to the women’s Superpesis and now PuMu’s games in Ykköspesis have made the people of Helsinki move to the pesis stands. The conditions for the women’s Superpesis were built in Roihuvuori and now we are renovating the old baseball stadium in Meilahti so that the public can also watch the pesis there in reasonable conditions,” says Arhinmäki.
