YouTube extends picture-in-picture mode to all users for free on iOS and Android

YouTube has extended picture-in-picture (PiP) mode to all users globally on Android and iOS, who will no longer need to have a Premium subscription to reduce the size of the video and continue playing it when browsing other applications.

Picture in Picture mode allows you to continue viewing videos while browsing other applications or the smartphone interface. As long as it is activated, you can reduce the size of the video and drag it around different parts of the screen.

This was an exclusive function for paying users in the YouTube application and, after extending it to users in the United States in its free version, the streaming content platform has launched the picture-in-picture mode globally.

This was detailed in a statement on its support page, where it was clarified that it is a function available for the YouTube application on iOS and Android devices, although its use is only allowed for extensive content “that is not musical.”

It should be noted that users subscribed to YouTube Premium will be able to enjoy picture-in-picture mode for both music and non-musical content, creating a “totally uninterrupted” experience.

To use PiP mode, simply activate it while playing a video by swiping up or exiting the application without closing it. Thus, the video will continue to play automatically in a reduced size. However, this is an option that will be implemented in the coming months.
