The White House opposes Anthropic expanding access to its Mythos model, according to media

President Donald Trump’s administration and Anthropic have just begun to mend fences following a dispute over the AI ​​company’s refusal to grant the military unconditional use of its software.

Anthropic, also the creator of the Claude chatbot, recently revealed its powerful Mythos model but did not release it to the public, citing potential cybersecurity risks and concerns that it could be used by hackers.

Instead, it shared a version of the program with select companies, including Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia, as part of a project called “Glasswing” to help them improve their security infrastructure.

The startup proposed expanding access to the model to another 70 companies, which would bring the total number of organizations with access to around 120.the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The White House, which has been at odds with Anthropic for months, opposes the expansion for security reasons, according to the newspaper.

According to this report, authorities are also concerned that Anthropic does not have enough computing capacity to share the technology with more companies without affecting its use by the government.

In February, at the height of the confrontation with Anthropic, Trump directed his administration to stop using the company’s technology after the Pentagon designated it as a “risk” to the national security supply chain.something normally reserved for organizations from rival countries.

The company is challenging these measures in court.

Tensions eased after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met at the White House this month with U.S. officials, where he held talks that the company called “productive.”

Earlier this week, Anthropic said it was investigating unauthorized access to Mythos after Bloomberg News reported that a small group of users on a private online forum had gained access.
