Habijan: Theoretically, Pavlek could be extradited as early as next week

Habijan added that, although Kazakhstan does not have an extradition agreement with Croatia, it is a member of Interpol and a signatory to international conventions that enable the implementation of such procedures.

Habijan emphasized that the further course of the proceedings depends solely on whether Pavlek will use the legal means available to him in Kazakhstan.

– So he is currently in an extradition prison in Kazakhstan. What follows are two options – if he does not use legal means, he can be in Croatia relatively quickly. If he will use them, and that depends on him, the procedure will certainly take some time until he decides on a possible appeal that he could file in Kazakhstan, he said.

The extradition procedure is in progress

Croatian authorities moreć have submitted to the Kazakh institutions all the necessary documentation for starting the extradition procedure.

– As far as the Ministry of Justice is concerned, if colleagues in Kazakhstan request additional documentation related to the translation or decision on the determination of the investigation, we will deliver it together with the accompanying letter. This will be followed by a discussion in Kazakhstan, explained Habijan.
