Lions: Henri Jokiharju and Joonas Korpisalo to the World Cup team

The lions The World Cup team is getting stronger again with two new NHL players. The team announces that the Boston Bruins defenseman Henri Jokihar and the goalkeeper Joonas Korpisalo join the team.

Both were also in the Finnish team at the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February. Both are taking part in the World Championships for the second time.

“Korpisalo has experience in tough NHL games, which will certainly be useful in the games as well. Jokiharju is a smart player, known for his skills on the puck and his passing game, for example”, Leijonien GM Jere Lehtinen commented in the announcement.

In Finland this year has at its disposal an exceptional number of players from the NHL and its farm league AHL. There are already 13 of them in the group.

The situation is rare, as the last time Finland had at least 10 players from North America at the World Cup was in 2018 (10). Since 2010, the number has been at least ten only twice.

The last NHL man to join the team was Teuvo Teräväinenwhose race trip was announced on May Day.

The brightest star of the team is the leader of the Florida Panthers Alexander Barkovwho missed the entire NHL season due to a knee injury.

NHL men will start to be seen in the team’s ranks at the Swedish EHT tournament this week. The Men’s Ice Hockey World Cup will be played in Switzerland from May 15.
