The Prime Minister is about to attend the ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines on May 7-8 at the invitation of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., ASEAN Chairman in 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

At the conference, the Prime Minister will deliver speeches conveying Vietnam’s foreign policy and views on ASEAN priorities, make proposals to strengthen the process of building the ASEAN Community, and exchange regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The Prime Minister will also contact and meet with leaders of countries to promote bilateral cooperation.

The 48th ASEAN Summit was attended by leaders of ASEAN countries and the Secretary General of ASEAN. This is one of two annual meetings of ASEAN leaders in 2026.

As ASEAN Chair 2026, with the theme “Sharing a Shared Future”, the Philippines sets three major directions for ASEAN cooperation: strengthening key factors for peace and security, expanding corridors of prosperity and promoting people’s empowerment.

The Philippines proposed that this Summit focus on discussing three contents on ensuring energy security, food security and protecting ASEAN citizens. Manila affirms that it will continue to promote the implementation of strategic focuses and priorities on strengthening intra-regional connectivity, enhancing self-reliance, strategic autonomy and the central role of ASEAN, maintaining momentum for Community building according to the goals and plans of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
