Despite conceding five goals in the 4:5 spectacle in the first duel with Paris Saint-Germain, defender Jonathan Tah continued to use Bayern’s usual tactics in the semi-final second leg. “Basically, our style of play has gotten us to where we are right now. That’s why I don’t think we should change anything about it,” said the national soccer player before the second duel with PSG for a place in the final of the Champions League.
This Wednesday (9 p.m./DAZN) the Munich team wants to erase the defeat from a week ago and throw the defending champions out of the competition. How will that work against the Paris offensive stars Ousmane Dembéle, Chwitscha Kwarazchelia and Desiré Doué? “The most important thing is simply our style of play, that we are courageous,” said the 30-year-old Tah, “that we are aggressive, win duels, win duels individually and as a team as a whole, win second balls.”
Tah: Kane, Olise and Díaz should “kill” others
The defensive veteran also relies on his own offense around Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz, who have been outstanding this season. The trio also makes him better every day, said Tah. “It’s outstanding to train with these guys every day. Their quality makes you better every day, they challenge you every day.” Tah added with a smile that he was happy that he didn’t have to play against them in competitive games: “I prefer watching them kill other defenders.”
While Tah spoke of great tension before the most important game of this Champions League season so far, coach Vincent Kompany reported an “inner calm”. He didn’t want to let the emotions of the duel get to him too early. “I won’t have any problems getting sleep tonight. I’m not feeling the pressure of the game at all yet.”
Guerreiro and Karl in final training
The coach relies on extensive preparation and the squad. With the exception of national player Serge Gnabry, “everyone is fit and there,” he announced. “And you need that in a game like this.”
The recently injured Lennart Karl and Raphaël Guerreiro were also there again in the final training session on Säbener Straße – at least in the part that was open to the media. They give Kompany more substitution options.
