To Ozempico in one day: Amazon introduces fast delivery

Amazon announced on Thursday that its US kiosk pharmacy will stock Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic in tablet form for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and offer same-day delivery. Ozempic, which contains the active substance semaglutide, is used to control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes, when the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not respond to it. Amazon moreć since January, it has also been offering Novo Nordisk’s slimming drug Wegovy, which is based on the same active substance, and in April it also announced the inclusion in its offer of the slimming drug Foundayo, produced by Eli Lily.

“Amazon Pharmacy continues to offer customers a wider choice and reliable and convenient access to the latest therapies like Ozempic tablets for type 2 diabetes,” said Tanvi Patel, vice president of Amazon Pharmacy, adding that the company strives to facilitate access to the medicines needed to maintain health.

Amazon started working with the GLP-1 group of drugs used in the treatment of diabetes and obesity in 2021, but injectable forms are not kept in kiosks due to the need for refrigeration, unlike tablets.

The company states that about half of its users in the US have the option of same-day delivery, while all receive their medication within four days at the most. Last year, Amazon invested more than four billion dollars in expanding its delivery network, with the goal of significantly increasing the number of available options by 2026, especially in smaller cities and rural areas.

Same-day delivery of Ozempic will be available at around 3,000 locations, and the plan is to expand it to 4,500 by the end of the year.

Patients with a prescription can order the drug for $149 a month in cash or with insurance, with the lowest price with insurance being $25.

Wegovy is currently available at five kiosks in California, where patients can pick it up at Amazon’s One Medical locations after a medical exam.

Kiosks have been introduced to facilitate access to medicines and reduce delivery costs, and the initial focus is on therapies such as antibiotics, blood pressure medicines and asthma inhalers. No subscription to One Medical is required for use.
